Glossary
pH: measurement of how basic or acidic a solution is, ranges on scale of 0-14, 0-7 is acidic, 7-14 is basic (36)
Total Alkalinity: amount of alkali in the form of bicarbonates, carbonates and hydroxides present in the pool water (37), helps pool water resist a change in pH (38)
Calcium Hardness: sum of Calcium dissolved in the water (39)
Soluble: able to dissolve
Precipitate: cause (a substance) to be separated in solid form from a solution (40)
Free Chlorine: composed of hypochlorous acid and hypochlorite ion, responsible for pool sanitation (41)
Chloramine: chemical bond of chlorine and nitrogen (42)
Combined Chlorine: another name for chloramine
HOCl: hypochlorous acid (43)
OCl-: hypochlorite ion (44)
NH3: ammonia
FeCl3: iron III chloride (45)
